The Merry Month of May

May is named for the Roman goddess Maia, who ruled over the growth of plants.

Indeed, farmers and gardeners in most of the country try to complete planting by this month. Old-timers get suspicious if the weather in May is too balmy: “A snowstorm in May is worth a wagonload of hay,” they counsel.

The Almanac’s long-term weather forecasts predict a cooler-than-normal spring in the Northeast, in Minnesota, in the Desert Southwest, and along much of the Pacific coast, and a warmer-than-normal one elsewhere.

Rainfall will be above normal from California northeastward to the Upper Midwest and near or below normal in other regions.

Hey You,

I have a technical question about you following my google reader stuff. I left a comment on your blog's entry in my Reader. Do YOu see it and if so-how? I will copy and paste the comment here as well incase you cannot see the other-somehow I remember reading that you can in fact see those remarks but I want verification, please.

"Our area has benefitted from late season snowfall and our reservoirs are at nearly 150% of normal. This surplus follows three years of less than 60% per year of water storage capacity.

The strawberries in my yard are starting to ripen-Piper loves the fresh fruit more than any other kid I've ever seen or perhaps I haven't had access to the fruit like I do now. Anyway it is delightful to watch her pop the juicy berries (straw and blue) into her little toothy mouth and grin as the sweetness coats her tongue."

Love you, LyndyLouLou
