Latest Garden Pictures

It's the first of June and this is where the garden progression is right now.
You can see the peas are climbing the trellis.

Lettuce, carrots and beets are all doing well.

Those mounds are 3 different varieties of squashes.

Tomatoes are in ground and staked already.

I am proud for what we have gotten accomplished thus far, especially with the crappy weather we have had this year. Two really wet months, April and May. Then the first two days of June we had gale force winds. I spent most all of yesterday repairing the damage from the winds. Speaking of damages, I am not sure what damage our little orchard sustained. It had flowered but, then with the winds.... will have to wait and see on the trees later.
Thank you Mother Earth.

It's Late...

I am sorry I have been a bit under the weather with a sinus headache today.
I have since the age I can remember clearly (approx. 4 or 5) suffered with sinuses.
I almost always get them when the weather is going to be changing.... a high to a low pressure system (or, is that low to high?) causes me to want to drop right off the face of the earth. I have been known to say.... just chop my head off and I'll feel better. Oh the pounding...

I had a pre-planned get together with a friend today and it's all I could do to make it thru our luncheon.
I suffered in silence, only mentioned it briefly once. Then carried on.
After she left.... I went to bed in the hopes I would have a new head when I awoke.
Nope didn't happen. Still have the headache.

I am signing off as my eyes are blurring.
Hope this weather system passes soon.

Fencing the Yard

This was done for privacy for our yard. We have no trees or, I should say too few trees. We will soon add another fruit tree to our small orchard making the # 10.

The weather had warmed up and the guys got on the stick this past week. It was finished very quickly.... three days total. And, will look very beautiful once the silver lace vines start growing all along the bottom edge of the lattice. Thus making the lattice create more privacy. Nude sunbathing anyone? Only kidding.... really!

Latest canning effort - beautiful beets

The square foot gardening has been prolific this year. Last year's first try at the new concept was not so great. I was hoping last year's semi-failure was due to the weather and I didn't really have a handle on how to grow using the square foot box system. Plus, in the midst of it all..... we had to move out of the place where we were living. Our landlady was coming home 4 months earlier than planned. So this year's bounty has been a real treat for us.
A couple of days ago I cleared out the beet squares. I had an assortment in sizes from really big to medium sized beets. We had been eating the greens and the smaller ones I had pulled to thin the planting beds out for quite awhile. Now it was time to pickle and can them. The above picture shows the result.... beautiful. I know we will be enjoying these throughout the winter.
The tomatoes are not yet ripe.... will post pictures of that canning when it happens.
